Salaamun Alayikum,
I looked up for the translation of this Ayah
“Ya ayyuhallazina amanu (in arabic: يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُو). “
The English translation of this phrase
1: “O you who believe”.
2: “O you who have believed”.
3: “O you who believed”.
My question is Why do we have three different translations for the same Ayah? Only the translation#3 is from Dr. Hany and it make sense to me. It is in the past.
Why Quran Explorer has it in present tense, translation #1? Million people downloaded the app and translation.
Why “ Athan” has the translation#2?
Do you see where our confusion or my confusion started?
I am very upset with the old translations. It led me to the wrong understanding. Do you feel what I mean? If you are not upset with the old translation then Dr. Hany’s translation does not make sense to you. Dr. Hany proved it to us. What a gift from Dr. Hany, it is amazing to have him helping us to understand Quran.
Did anyone try to search for the translation anywhere just to appreciate what we have here with Dr. Hany? Please add your comments.
Jazakh Allah khair.
Salaamun Alayikum

I am having some doubts over this and my understanding says Yaa Ayyuhal Lazina Aamanu is for sure meaning "o people who believed", but I think it is something secular in nature and these groups are those people who have not yet believed in Allah and in messenger and I feel this groups is present in any part of the world in any timeline irrespective of which religion they follow.
And this in Surah Nisa 4:136 it is mentioned to these groups to believe in Allah and his messenger and the Book and also previous Books. And as per my understanding these people are those who are peaceful and trustworthy and it has nothing to do whether they believe in current book or old book or even in Allah or not.
If it was talking about people who believed in previous scriptures before Quran this Aayat would not have asked them to believe in older Book as well.
If you have any contradiction please let me know I would be benefitting from it.
Thank you.
