Salaamun Alaykum

Was just reading the verse on Wudhu and I realized it starts with
(5: 6) O you who believed (in the past)..

interesting...

Salamun Alaikum.  I agree, very interesting. This item was earlier brought forward in Questions re. Prior Videos and it is promised this item will be addressed in the future.

I am already preparing myself for the lectures and downloaded a collection of the 89 Ayat where this phrase is used in Quran. (
Also looked up all words with root Aleef mim nun in Quran. Amazing, beautiful how the words related to "believe' is used in Quran. I look forward to the lectures on the item.

Salaamun Alaykum.

Here is a hint from the beginning of YT33 (Ramadhan Series 2021):

„يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ ءَامِنُواْ „

O You who believed, believe [...].
(4:136)

„ءَامِنُواْ“ is an imperative. So they are the followers of the earlier communities of faith and are commanded to believe.

It’s up to you to read the whole Ayah and watch the Segment.

If you wonder why it *doesn‘t*
This would be:
„O You who rejected, believe!“

It is because of Ayah 2:6
„إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ“

So those who rejected, will not believe, whether you warn them or not - so if they were commanded, they would not believe either.

Salaamun Alaykum.

@Shaahid Abba

Salaamun Alaykum.

I reviewed the expressions "ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ" and "تُنذِرۡهُمۡ" which are both from the root (ن ذ ر).
Generally it is traslated to mean "warning". "نَذِير" therefore is often translated as "warners".

_____________________________________________________________________________________

But look at how different it is used in these two Ayat:

3:35
"[...] إِذۡ قَالَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُ عِمۡرَٰنَ رَبِّ إِنِّي *نَذَرۡتُ* لَكَ مَا فِي بَطۡنِي مُحَرَّرٗا فَتَقَبَّلۡ مِنِّ"

19:26
"[...]إِنِّي *نَذَرۡتُ* لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ صَوۡمٗا [...]"

"إِنِّي نَذَرۡتُ" is translated as "I have vowed" by the traditionalists.

Certainly Maryam does not WARN Allah, about her oath/vow towards Allah, to abstain from speech (for a while).
But she (humbly) reaffirms to Allah, about her oath/vow towards Allah to abstain from speech (for a while).

So I choose a different meaning:

It is the range of the words
asseverate, reassure and reaffirm.
(In German it is "beteuern"; "إِنِّي نَذَرۡتُ", would be "ich beteuere"; Google just seem not to get it, that it has nothing to do with protest, but with reaffriming, but if you type "beteuern" in "Google Translate" it gets it better.
In the case of Maryams mother it does not really fit nice, because it could mean "consecrate" or "dedicate"; but it could mean "to put her in accordance of your way", and this would be closer to "reaffirm". But I still struggle with the meaning.

So 2:6 could mean something like (and this only my private understanding of this Ayah):

"إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ"

"And those who rejected (the ways to attain the insigt to believe proper and not blindly) it is equal to them
whether you reaffirm to them (that it is the truth) or did not reaffirm to them. They will not attain the insight to believe proper [if you only means is to reaffirm to them that it is thruth, but the remain in rejection of the ways to attain the insight of proper belief]."

_____________________________________________________________________________________

I am not sure, if "those who reaffirm" is the correct tranlation for "نَذِير", because I wonder, if they have something more to say than just reaffirm to people of understanding, that this is the truth, like we accepted many gifts from Dr. Hany, which in their application made sense to us learners and toilers; but to people, who do not apply correctly - or think a terminology is only worth applying, if it is written in the dictionaries - because they don't understand use the stories to extract terminology; To them these gifts and the reaffirmation that it correct, would cause rejection.

So I think regarding "نَذِير" (the so called warners) my idea that they are "those who reaffirm", might need to be corrected, but it is better than the vanilla flavoured type of translation.

As I see it, those who rejected will not believe, because "reaffirming" to them only helps those who can think and apply or even better understand methodology; but those who rely on other sources or can understand how and why another terminology should be applyed or is a better application, the will not "believe" when the truth is reaffirmed to them - even by using all the Ayat to confirm, they will reject.

It does not mean, that they will stuck forever in rejection, but it means, if their way to approach the scripture does not change, the style of "raffirmation" will not change it.

But this is only how I see it, you don't need to take my interpreation seriously, I have not enough conformation by the Quran to declare it correct. It is just an assumption.

Salaamun Alaykum.
