The Marvelous Quran

This website and the associated YouTube channel (Marvelous Quran) are for Quran lovers who are critical thinkers and evidence-based learners. We focus on addressing a major problem in our existing books of Tafseer (exegesis), all of which misidentified the nature of the Quran, treating it as if it were similar to a collection of poetry, thus presuming that its words and expressions abide by the traditional Arabic language. Even worse, these books of Tafseer resorted to stories from the corrupted earlier scriptures to explain the stories in the Quran, even though the Quran clearly prohibited that. When they did not understand the Quranic stories, they misunderstood the Abrahamic locution that was used throughout the Quranic stories, and therefore misunderstood the remainder of the Quran.

Every video in this channel provides examples of how to apply the organic Quranic methodology, and how properly to engage the Quran using the organic Quranic methodology in order to receive divine guidance directly from Allahh SWT.

About Dr. Hany Atchan...

We all have our faults. And we all have our history. Mine is full of mistakes and tragedies caused by my own stubbornness. The only thing that is positive about my history is that Allahh kept alive in me an eagerness to learn, Alhamdulillah.

FAQs

Why do we need the hadeeth in the first place?

I ran into a hadeeth of Abdullah Ibn Abbass, that uses the verb "Natamaara" "نتمارى" in a context which clearly means "to interrogate each other" or "to question each other" or "to learn from each other". While using the Quranic methodology, I discovered that other derivative forms of the same gerund "مري" are used in Quranic prohibitions to our beloved SAWS. Now, these prohibitions are part of our Quran and they are essential for us to understand what our beloved SAWS was instructed to do, right? The Quran, according to the methodology, clearly told our beloved to avoid discussing some topics and stories with Jews and Christians. Regardless of the reason I discovered for such prohibition, you will agree that this is not an easy conclusion to swallow, until I could verify that the indication of that verb "مري" was commonly accepted during the early centuries in the same way that my research produced... And this is where the Hadeeth I mentioned above came into good use: To confirm that the result of the methodology is legitimately in accordance with how people understood the verb DURING THEIR TIME! So we don't use it as a religious text, but they could be useful as a historical linguistic source (kinda). That external affirmation allowed me more confidence. Please note that, had I not found any historical linguistic affirmation, I would still accept the results of my methodological toiling. But with the external affirmation, I had a little more confidence, in addition to having a readily available argument against those who reject the Quran-only interpretation, if ever I had to convince them of the Quranic indication of the verb "مري"... So I will never recommend to dismiss all the collections of Hadeeths, because they could be used: 1. for linguistic confirmation, just to give us a warm and fuzzy affirmation, but never to act as a veto stick over the results of the methodology, and 2. for preserving a historical record of who the bad guys were, and what kind of schemes they carried out! This is a very important part because the Quran itself told us that Allahh shall reveal their accounts. In other words, preserving these collections is in itself a Quranic enjoinment upon the believers. There are other benefits for the collections of historical books, but this is enough for now!

Isn't it better to share the knowledge and leave it to listeners to make their own decisions rather than criticising the previous translations and opinions, as it would appear that those opinions were expressed in good faith?

The Quran taught us how to detect that some people have acted with wrong intention. I know they did not teach us this in Azhar and in other Islamic institutions, but that's because they don't even know that the Quran provides its own methodology, and provides information about our predecessors. We appreciate your advice. We really do. But we never accused anyone with having the wrong intention. That is a matter between them and Allahh... But we absolutely expose their errors, and that is a necessity... When you go to a doctor, and if he determines that you are consuming some wrong food that is causing illness due to your allergic reaction, the first thing that doctor needs to convince you is to stop consuming that wrong food... Doing so does not mean that the doctor is accusing the farmer of bad intention! With Islamic tradition, there is no way to finesse this. If we are not clear and even blunt at times, some people may not take notice.

What is the difference between Adam, a Nabiy, and a Rassool?

Adam is a general description for all of us who accept the "Takleef" (the assignment) to carry the mission of Islam, unlike the rejecters among those who received prior scriptures. As we shall see (in future videos), Allahh provides us extra help when we elect to carry this assignment to its proper standard.

Rassool is an adam, but is further assigned the responsibility of delivering a specific scripture/message.  After Muhammad SAWS, tere will not be any new Rassool.

Nabiy is also an adam who is assigned the responsibility of achieving a specific implementation of a message within a community (Qawm), in exchange for special support from Allahh to complete his/her mission. Nabiy applies an existing scripture. Because there was no scripture at the time of our beloved SAWS,  our beloved SAWS was given a scripture first, i.e., he was a Rassool first, and then later was assigned the extra responsibility of a Nabiy: He was assigned the extra responsibility of interpreting and applying the message in accordance with his circumstances and conditions. After Muhammad SAWS, tere will not be any new Nabiy.

As believers, we are required to obey the Rassool, in the sense of obeying the message he delivered. Even after a messenger dies, we are required to keep obeying him in the sense of preserving, engaging, and applying the message (the scripture,) and delivering that message to new generations of recipients. When we accept this responsibility and carry it out, we become Adam(s).
Only a Nabiy's contemporaries are required to obey and support him. When a Nabiy dies, his mission is finished (not necessarily completed), and no one is required to keep following his instructions as a Nabiy. In the absence of a Nabiy, we follow and apply the scripture directly. By doing so we become Adam(s) by choice.

We follow the message of our Rassool, not our Nabiy. Nabiy does not have a message!

So those who want us to keep obeying the Nabiy (in his applications of the scripture) do not follow the Quran! They want to make the Nabiy as a permanent intermediary between humans and Allahh, and they want to take the Nabiy's decisions that were applicable to his specific conditions and society, and make them applicable to all times and places. Nowhere in the Quran are we, now, instructed to obey the Nabiy.

What is the difference between Adam and Khalifah?

Khalifah represents the assignment itself: The fact that Allahh assigned you the task of stewardship in the scripture, after others have passed on.
Adam is a descriptor for those of us who accept and carry it forward.

Why does Allah order Jews and Nasarah to follow their Torah and Bible accordingly?

Allahh was making a challenge to them, if they claim to have the original, then to go follow it. They know, as we are told repeatedly in the Quran, that they don't have the original scriptures. They have been lost for a long time. All modern academic biblical research confirms this fact.
In any case, the Quran brought back to them many of the Shari3ah that they had lost.

What is the meaning of Rabbul arshil azeem?

The lord of the prevalent 3arsh (the Weltanschauung that you dedicate to Allahh, and that becomes prevalent over every thought, conviction, and perception you have) This, of course, applies to those who moved from the Kursiy system to the 3arsh system.

How to make duaa for parents that have passed away?

Aya 17:24

Jinns are humans ? And they become powerful? How about the jinns Sulayman had control over ?

Jinns are people who succumb to strategy of Iblees. They are not powerful. They are not separate creature. The jinn of Sulayman were such people.

Why are the stories of the Quran purposely composed in a way to look like those other stories? Isn't it then a misleading thing? Why would Allah do that?

Allahh says in the Quran that those who look beyond the superficial appearance will find the truth, but those who approach the Quran with the wrong assumptions or with doubt, then these people shall be misguided. Each person will find in the Quran that  which matches his/her intention and goal. I hope this helps.

I find it hard to believe that our Nabi SAW did not explain this to anyone and if he did, why hasn't any of this manage to survive and reach us.

Nabiy did explain much of the Quran to his closest companions, but not to everyone. But remember that we did not receive everything about our beloved SAWS. For example, out of all his Friday Khutbahs, we received NONE! There must have been hundreds of Khutbahs, witnessed by thousands... Where are they?

What is the difference between the Quran and Hadith qudsi?

Hadith Qudsi includes a quote supposedly made by our beloved SAWS, explaining what Allahh said, NOT WHAT ALLAHH literally said.
It is NOT the same as Quran. The Quran was transmitted by tens of thousands who memorized it, for generation after generation, and was written down ever since the days of our beloved SAWS.
Hadith Qudsi often is reported by a handful of people and sometimes by less. Generally, such narrations are transmitted verbally for a few generations before they were written down.
Our beloved SAWS never mixed the two. Our beloved SAWS never recorded the Hadith Qudsi.
